One question about Palestine.
Okay. I believe the Palestinians should have their own country. Mostly to keep them safe from Arabs, who have slaughtered many, many, many thousands of them over recent history.
But why is it that the land the Palestinians want happens to be ONLY IN ISRAEL.
Ancient Palestine was much, much bigger. In fact, Jordan is included in this area. Why don't people ask Jordan for land? Jordan, of course, is responsible for some of the biggest Palestinian slaughters in history... so this would make some sense.
Israel is teeny weeny. It just seems a little stupid that it's precisely that land which is desperately important to the Palestinians. You know?
Love to all. Even you, the dude with the crinkly foot.

Don't know. But I think Jerusalem, a city which is holy for both the Jews and Muslims, may have something to do with it.
What does Jerusalem have to do with the Gaza Strip, or 95% of the West Bank?
And isn't Jordan just the tiniest bit responsible for helping create a Palestinian state?
Makes me nuts, it does.
The six-day war maybe? It may not have to do with the Gaza Strip, but maybe it has to do with their hate for each other? I don't know.
I understand the question, but we're not dealing with the logical. We all know that even if Palestinians got what they wanted, conflict would continue.
DV: I don't know if that's true. Stable countries, with schools, work, and infrastructure, tend not to want to go to war.
I never quite finished my degree (in politics & history incidentally) and I'd hardly be accused of taking sides in this (since I think both sides behave like three year olds) but I think it goes something like this.
In 1948, the British protectorate of Palestine was split up. Jordan came out of that. So did Israel. The bits left over (mostly referred to today as the Gaza Strip & the West Bank) were deemed "Palestine".
At some point before I was born, the Israelis occupied the Palestinian bits.
Which I think is why those two bits are so contentious.
Rich,
I think you're right in your statement that prosperous communities have less desire for conflict. There is a tendency by some to characterise their opponents as non-logical or insane, which is rather pointless, because how do you defeat an insane person? Just because someone else's opinions or priorities differ does not make them insane.
That was a tendency the West seemed to have following the WTC attacks - call the hijackers insane. But it seemed silly. If you call them insane, how do you prevent a repeat? The only way to prevent people hating you is to know why they hate you, and try to avoid that situation.
