The only way you can check mate in four moves is by combining a Bishop and Queen attack, which most kids learn as their first thing in chess. Unfortunately, Rich was not part of “most kids”, so he was never shown the trick… Rich rode the short buss with tinted windows to school, and he threw checkers at the other kids…
sorry for the spoiler… I do admit that at five years old keeping up with the strategy of four planned consecutive moves is impressive… She obviously gets it from her mamma…
